Every Game

I am on a mission, and that mission is to watch every professional sports team there is in the Bay Area this year. I have been wanting to accomplish this goal for sometime now. I have only been to Warrior, SF and SJ Giants and A's games. I want to expand my love for sports by attempting to watch one game per sports team in the Bay. I have started this by already attending an A's, 2 SF Giants' game and a 49er game (my first one ever, thanks to Jason Yuki). I started this list at the beginning of summer and this is what I have:

Attended:
49ers
A's
SF GIants

Left to Attend:
Raiders
SJ GIants
Sharks
Warriors
Earthquakes

I think I will be attending the next Earthquake's home game on September 11.

9/6.. Just bought my Sharks and Earthquake tickets.. Who wants to go? haha

St. Victor's Alumni 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

From light sprinkles to sun burns, the weather was not the only thing that was heating up in San Jose this last Saturday (08/14/10). St. Victor's held its Alumni 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, headed by the Class of 2000, the Alumni Board, Sammy Fernandez, parents and volunteers. There were old and new faces to this year's tournament as the Alumni came together to help raise funds for this year's Eighth Grade class field trip to Washington D.C.

As one walked onto the black top of their old stomping grounds, they could feel their jitters leave their body with one thing on their mind; win. As last year's champs, the '01 Elite, walked onto the courts everyone knew they meant business. The '01 Elite were on the their pursuit for their second title. With the departure of Lionel Milan, the '01 Elite added Don Collado, Alvin Lomotan and Mark Macaranas to their squad. One team that participated this year and was great to see come out was team Carlocos, class of 1993. The team was headed by Carl Macaranas, who currently has 2 kids attending St. Victors.

This years tournament was going on a very fast pace. Some teams would have to play game after game without a break because teams wanted to get as many games in before lunch. The faster a team finished, the more rest they had. From 9am-12:30pm, all the teams have already played a total of 6 games.

New teams were representing their class: Team Boom (class of 1999), Team High 5 (class of 2003) and Team Dinosaur (class of 2010) just to name a few. Team Dinosaur was able to hold their ground against a lot of the older alums. Headed by the sharp shooting of R.J. Dela Cruz, Team Dinosaur was able to sneak into the playoffs; but only to come short to the play of GMX Roboto. GMX Roboto was the fastest team in the tournament, with players Kyle Dizon, Bobby Erzen Jason Gasmin and Jeremy Mendoza. But speed can only get you so far.

Towards the end of the tournament, everyone wanted to see the rematch between the '01 Elite and Team Boom in the championship. Team Boom came up short before lunch against the reigning champs and wanted their revenge. This team consisted of Chris Liclican, Jerold Caparas, Conan Tzou and Paul Nguyen. The teams are very familiar with each other because they have played one another in an Asian League based in San Jose; Dream League.

As the weather picked up, so did the game. The '01 Elite took charge of the game right away with the pick and roll plays between Valderrama and Lomotan. But points did not come easy as Team Boom's Nguyen played aggressive defense as the championship game went on. Both teams were getting worn out, and both played their reserves to help rest the starters. But at the end of the day, the '01 Elite came in and did what they had to do; defended their title.

Congrats to everyone that showed up and we hope to see you all again next year. Please help us spread the word of the tournament and we hope for this to grow bigger and bigger every year. Thanks

2nd Annual St. Victor's Alumni 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

Come one, come all to the 2nd Annual St. Victor's Alumni 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. This year it will be hosted by the class of 2000, the Alumni Board and Sammy Fernandez. We look forward to the alumni, new and old faculty, current students and of course the parents and volunteers.

We have been planning for this event for the past few weeks and plan on it being bigger than it was last year. Last year's alumni tournament was a big surprise as we has a total of about 10 teams present. We hope that this event will surpass any expectation one has for this weekend. Let's keep this momentum going and bring as many friends and family along.

There will be a slight change in this year's tournament; we will be hosting the CHARGER GAMES. What's the Charger Games, you ask. Well this year not only will the tournament be holding the 3-on-3 basketball action, but we will be holding a 3 point contest and two games of Knock Out. Each participant must pay $2. Out of the $2, $1 will go towards the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C. while the other goes into a pot. The winner of each game collects all the money in that pot; so the more people that play, the more the winner receives.

We hope this event helps reconnect alumni of all ages. I personally am looking forward to seeing my old classmates I haven't seen since our eighth grade graduation. We also hope it will help with networking, maybe this event will help you land you your next job.

Stay posted for updates for this event. Registration starts at 8am at St. Victor's School on the black top. See you there!

My Farewell To San Francisco =(

As most of you know, I will be moving back to the 408... This is the true definition of a love/hate relationship. I do not want to move back home because I'm going to be tied down from everyone there. But there are pro's/con's to moving out of the City and moving back home. Here is a list:

Pro's moving home and moving out of SF:

NOT PAYING FOR RENT AND UTILITIES!!
Good food always waiting on the table.
Old friends back home (the crew).
A CAR (didn't have one in SF).
Nice weather, finally.

Con's of moving home and moving out of SF

FREEDOM
Hanging out with my roomies and getting into trouble.
Going out whenever I want and where I want.
Eating the wonderful food of SF (Lucky Penny's Clam Chowder on Friday's).
All the homies from USF and their homies.
Living by the beach (even though it's only Ocean Beach).

Oh San Francisco, how you have been a great home to me for the past 5 years. Thank you for all the first experiences; some good and some bad. Oh how I will miss the nightlife, because there is no other like you. Thank you for all the people I have come across and the times we have had together. All I can say is, thank you and until we meet again.

Haight Street Fair: San Francisco, CA

The smell of BBQ and lemonade in the air; the music playing and people partying from their apartment windows; and the 75 (with no wind) degree weather in San Francisco was what was going down in the City this past Sunday.

Yesterday was the true start of Summer, and what a way to kick it off with the Haight Street Fair. I mean, it was just the kind of weather you have when you're in San Jose: nice. Probably the best thing they had at the fair was just a group of people playing on drums and bongos. The rhythm and beats these people were making were unplanned, but meshed so well. All it took was one person on the drums and one on the bongos. Sooner or later there were 2 drummers, 2 bongo players and a woman hitting cow bells. People were stuck in a trance and really appreciated their music. People from all parts of the city were enjoying this music, even dancing in the street. I don't even think these people new each other, but oh how wonderful music brings people together.

But the food was was "on-point," especially the free food! I tasted chocolate mint WATER!?!? And i didn't hate it. It was a little awkward at first, but it was pretty good. It was so good they ran out 2 hours before the fair ended. The next free drink I had was something similar to an Arizona Ice Tea. I do not remember the name of it, but it was very tasty. I would actually buy this, but only if I could remember its name. And third of course, Otter-Pops. On a hot day, Otter-Pops had "win" all over it.

Oh Haight Street, how i will miss you when I move back to San Jose. I was terrified of you as a Freshman in college, but now I am leaving you with a place in my heart <3... From the awesome boutiques such as True and Stussy; to the great food and Milk Bar (Allen's 21st birthday) ; to where I bought my first ever "camo" jacket, I will try not to be a stranger.
